Day 1 – BLC 943.1 Conversation Skills Outside the Boardroom

With a background in journalism and digital communications, Molly McPherson formed Social Shift Media from her experience working in news, public affairs, and emergency management at the Federal Emergency Management Agency and Cruise Lines International Association. Molly is currently an adjunct professor in multimedia journalism and social media as well as a frequent featured speaker and instructor for several national agencies, institutions, and firms including the Department of Homeland Security, John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, and The Communication Center in Washington D.C.

Topic Includes:
  • Distinguishing the CEO’s role as primary co-op spokesperson for the co-op from the director’s role in co-op communications efforts.
  • Awareness of what is being communicated through body language.
  • Effective techniques for referring questions to the CEO or the designated spokesperson.
  • Recognizing that anything directors say can be recorded by a smartphone and wind up on the Internet.
  • Responding to media inquiries and interviews if and when necessary.
