Thirteen co-ops in Virginia, one in Maryland and one in Delaware are members of The Virginia, Maryland & Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives (VMDAEC). Electric cooperatives are consumer-owned, state-chartered electric utilities. The Association is the largest consumer organization in each of the three states.

Join Our Team: Associate Vice President of External Affairs
The Virginia, Maryland and Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives (VMDAEC) is seeking an experienced and dynamic Associate Vice President of External Affairs to oversee the planning, development, and execution of our Governmental Affairs and External Communications services. In this key role, you’ll manage legislative advocacy efforts at state and federal levels, coordinate political action committee activities, and promote our cooperative’s positions to the public and policymakers. This role is intended to be a leadership opportunity with near-term growth opportunities within the organization.
The ideal candidate will have 5-10 years of progressive experience in public policy, government relations, or a related field, with strong relationship-building, communication, and strategic thinking skills. A background in political science, communications, or a similar field is preferred.
VMDAEC is regional trade association providing world class member services to 16 electric cooperatives in Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware. VMDAEC provides members with a suite of services including government affairs, internal and external communications services, and safety and training services. Key Responsibilities:
- Lead advocacy efforts at both the state and federal levels
- Manage government affairs department operations and staff
- Oversee cooperative PAC activities and grassroots/grasstops initiatives
- Develop effective communication strategies with policymakers, cooperatives, and the public
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Communications, or a related field
- 5-10 years of experience in government relations or policy-driven roles
- Strong writing, speaking, and research skills
- In-depth knowledge of Virginia political landscape
