Services

The Virginia, Maryland & Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives exists to serve the member-owned electric cooperatives in the three-state area. We do this via a wide array of services offered through our four primary work areas:

Responsible for Financials, Human Resources and Benefits for the Association.
Produces Connections Newsletter – news and information on legislative, regulatory and local and national co-op issues.
Schedules, plans, and facilitates meetings and carries out special assignments for member CEO group.
Conducts Unsung Virginian, Leadership, Distinguished Service, and Distinguished Friend of the Electric Cooperatives awards programs.

The communications and public relations department offers graphic design, writing, editing, videography and photography to the association’s 16 member cooperatives. In addition, the department is responsible for publishing Cooperative Living magazine and the membership and legislative guides. The department staff also assists member cooperatives with their special publication projects, ranging from advertising layouts and proxy wraps to annual reports. Our photography and videography team records events through our territory, including with drone footage. The team also maintains several websites, including Co-opLiving.com, the Gaff-n-Go Rodeo site and this site, while maintaining an active presence on social media. We publish Connections, an internal e-newsletter aimed at our association members.

It actively engages in governmental affairs to represent and protect the interests of member cooperatives and their communities.

By working closely with local, state, and federal policymakers, we advocate for fair legislation, reliable energy policy, and the cooperative business model.

Our efforts ensure that members’ voices are heard, and that affordable, sustainable, and community-focused electricity remains a priority.

Educational Services supports members and internal staff through educational opportunities and administrative services.

The department’s role is to:

Provide training to cooperative directors, management and staff.
Coordinate statewide board meetings and professional group meetings.
Conduct membership surveys.

Safety, Training and Education Services supports members and staff through safety, training and educational opportunities.

The department’s role is to:

Develop and present training courses on relevant safety topics to electric co-op line crews and other employees.
Conduct dielectric and electrical evaluations on electric co-op equipment.
Conduct safety inspections of co-op premises, prepare written reports for CEO and management, and share results with management.
Conduct safety meetings at member systems.
Help ensure compliance with applicable federal and state safety regulations.
Coordinate relief assistance to member systems to assist with outage restoration.
Conduct apprentice training, substation training and system operators training at the Association’s Training Center.
Conduct annual Gaff-n-Go Lineman’s Rodeo.
