Seven co-ops travel to KC for 39th International Lineman’s Rodeo

In mid-October, seven Virginia electric co-ops participated in the 39th Annual International Lineman’s Rodeo in Bonner Springs, Kansas. With more 1,300 lineworkers competing and 541 judges, this was a record year for the event. NOVEC apprentice lineworker Zack Dayton, placed 9th out of 440 apprentices in the Pole Climb event with a time of :55:35.

While Clint Card and Matt Shaw from Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative and Phil Jarvis with VMDAEC participated as judges, journeyman teams and apprentices from BARC Electric Cooperative, Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative, Rappahannock Electric Cooperative, Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative, Central Virginia Electric Cooperative and Southside Electric Cooperative competed in events throughout the day.

8  – Trey Roberts, REC

13 – Cameron Lewis, REC

24 – Colby Monroe, REC

28 – Cody Roark, REC

40 – Andrew Gray, REC

46 – Zack Dayton, NOVEC

55 – Scott Chisholm, CVEC

60 – Cole Shaffer, SVEC

REC’s Trey Roberts also finished 54th in the Best of Best Apprentice.

Journeyman teams performed well, too. The BARC team of Will Reid, Cody Minter and Skyler Merchant placed 12th in the Pole Climb and 39th in the Hurtman Rescue. Southside journeyman Will Southworth, Hunter Cline and Jeremy Warden finished 28th overall in the REA Division, while BARC placed 32nd.
