Several members of the Virginia, Maryland & Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives have been recognized for their award-winning submissions in the annual Spotlight on Excellence.
The program, coordinated by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, recognizes the outstanding work produced and submitted by electric cooperative communication and marketing professionals from across the country.
Delaware Electric Cooperative earned a Gold Award in the Best Special Publication (Large) for its Delaware Living magazine.
Four of VMDAEC’s member cooperatives earned Silver Awards for their exceptional work. Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative received recognition in the Best Digital Storytelling category with the “Spirit of SVEC” video showcasing its cooperative story.
Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative took home two Silver Awards for Best Special Publication (Large) for its biomass booklet and Best Annual Report to Members.
Also winning two silver awards, Rappahannock Electric Cooperative received honors for Best Internal News Publication for REC Powerlines and for Individual Ad for its “We’re All in This Together.”
VMDAEC was also recognized at this year’s NRECA Spotlight Awards, receiving two Gold Awards. The Association won Best Feature Story for Cooperative Living Editor Steven Johnson’s “On the Outside, Looking In” story about Robert Russa Moton High School in Farmville, Va. Recently retired President and CEO Richard Johnstone’s monthly Viewpoint column in the magazine won Best Column.
“Printed news publications, social media and videos are all more important than ever to keep members updated on issues affecting the electric cooperatives and their members,” said Scott Peterson, senior vice president, communications, for NRECA.
