Thirty member cooperative directors and leadership gathered at the VMD Training Center on March 28 for half-day orientation about the history and services offered by ODEC and VMDAEC. A reception followed at the Boar’s Head Resort in Charlottesville.
The next morning, 22 co-op directors were introduced to James “Bo” Todd, who facilitated NRECA’s “Applying Emotional Intelligence in the Boardroom” training. Emotional intelligence is described as a skill that can improve with training and practice. The course focused on four core competencies: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness/empathy and relationship management. Directors learned how to develop and implement these competencies to enhance their ability to interact with fellow directors and their CEOs. Increasing awareness of social and emotional behaviors allows one to adapt to and manage responses to actual boardroom situations.
The Association will host its Fall RoundUp on Oct. 24 at The Crossings in Glen Allen, Va. A brand new NRECA training will be featured: Moving the Fence – A Guide to Shared Services, System Mergers and Territorial Acquisitions. More information to follow.
Thank you again to all who attended the Spring RoundUp earlier this week.
