March 15-17, VMDAEC staff from the Member and Public Affairs team visited four of the Association’s member cooperatives across the Delmarva Peninsula. Andrew Vehorn, Sadie Gary, Jacob Newton and Marin Sanders started their day on the Eastern Shore of Virginia with a tour of A&N Electric Cooperative’s new headquarters, followed by a meeting with CEO Butch Williamson and senior staff members. On Thursday morning, they went to Delaware Electric Cooperative’s headquarters to meet with CEO Rob Book, as well as their Government Affairs and Communications teams. Afterwards, they stopped by Choptank Electric Cooperative’s Annapolis office to discuss the Maryland General Assembly Session with Matt Teffeau, Valerie Connelly and Choptank CEO Mike Malandro. Later, the group took a full tour of the Maryland State House. After sitting in on contested debate in the House of Delegates chamber, the team even caught a glimpse of newly elected Maryland Gov. Wes Moore walking the Capitol grounds.
On Friday morning, the team went to visit SMECO to tour their operations facility. This year, VMD Youth Tour participants will be visiting SMECO at the end of their trip to Washington, DC. SMECO Government Affairs and Community Relations Director Natalie Cotton provided a tour of their operations center, supply yard and call center.
VMDAEC staff always appreciates an opportunity to visit our members. We appreciate DEC, Choptank and ANEC for welcoming us to their facilities.
