In late January, students from various member cooperatives delved into the world of drones during a comprehensive week-long course in collaboration with VMDAEC Associate Member Sentinel Robotic Solutions.

Led by SRS Director of UAS Programs Jason Taylor, the course provided a deep dive into crucial aspects of safe UAS (unmanned aircraft systems) operation, and the information needed to successfully pass the FAA Part 107 test. Students explored topics ranging from current regulations and airspace considerations to deciphering aeronautical charts, understanding weather impacts and understanding crew resource management.

One highlight of the program was the hands-on flight day, where participants got to apply their newfound knowledge to the basics of drone flight. The practical experience undoubtedly added an extra layer of understanding to the theoretical concepts covered throughout the week.

With more than 100 certified UAS pilots among VMDAEC’s 16 member cooperatives, the Association is excited to offer this new training with Sentinel Robotic Systems team.
