Thanks to the expertise and support from the Fiber Broadband Association and VMDAEC Associate Member S&N Communications, the first Fiber Technician Apprenticeship Program kicked off this month at the Association Training Center in Palmyra, Va.

S&N Communications Senior Director of Fiber Services Andy Gibson, Regional Safety Manager Terry Gillooly and Fiber Services Project Manager Joe Phillips led students from co-op fiber subsidiaries RURALBAND (Prince George Electric Cooperative), Firefly Fiber Broadband (Central Virginia Electric Cooperative), BARC Connects (BARC Electric Cooperative) and EMPOWER Broadband (Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative).

Students began their journey toward FBA OpTIC Path Certification this month with three full days of class. They’ll return four more times for three days each of those weeks, with a completion target date of April 20.
