The cooperative family was saddened at the recent death of John Short, a member of the board of directors of Powell Valley Electric Cooperative. Dr. Short died Jan. 12 after a short battle with cancer.
A graduate of the University of Tennessee medical school, he operated a family medicine practice in Sneedville. He also was a deacon in the Sneedville First Baptist Church and a Sunday School teacher.
In 2010, People magazine featured him as the preceptor of a young medical student determined to serve Appalachia.
